When you’re in the mountains, EVERY day is FRIDAY.
June 2018 update: Start of Colorado summer, high hike season – thin air, high peaks. LOVE LOVE ❤
Finish of one challenge, beginning of a new 12-month goal: 2280 miles, Chicago to LA. Started my Route 66 Challenge already a week into June, then skipped 5 run days after Bighorn. Work, right heel plantar, mentally spent after goal race. Excuses, we’ve all got ’em.
Sun/heat season. Journey not a sprint. Expect to lag behind target all summer, 200 miles/month a hefty challenge.
New places, new faces, new adventures, new tales. FULL Fall schedule ahead.
Race ReCap: high-altitude miles, Runoff Runoff Marathon in Creede CO (8800ft elevation)

June 6th, 2018 is Global Running Day! A worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone to get moving. It doesn’t matter how fast you run or how far you go-what’s important is that you take part. Run a lap around your block, take your dog for a long walk, have fun being active and inspire others to join you.
Global Running DAY? How ‘bout Global Run WEEK!
Struggled after Saturday’s trail fail. Tough mentally to bounce back from a DNF. Always does, stings. Why start something if the intention wasn’t to finish? Lotta effort seemingly for nothing. Unfortunately that’s my norm: lotta food, 4 to 5 days of sulking.
High road approach. Long run Sunday. All trail, 1000ft elevation gain. Finished motivated, day literally after Dirty 30. Nip it in the bud. Negative energy gone, yesterday’s the past.
What tweaks can be made before Bighorn? Outdoor run EVERY day this week. Finish off Saturday with a 2nd high-altitude marathon – a do-over, without the technical element of Dirty 30.
BIG miss highlighted in Golden. Spring training lacked elevation.
Winners sometimes fail but winners never quit. I’m done quitting.
One day. Then a second…and a third. It’s a journey.

Spanglish alternative for marathoners whose schedules conflict with the Mexican high holiday
New holiday, new restaurant. Met Ash & Tom in downtown Louisville, trío celebrating at Pica’s Mexican Taqueria.
Everything in THREEs. 3 drinks, 3 meals, 3rd of May – trío de Mayo!
- new holiday, new restaurant

- happy trío de Mayo!
2 days later birthday-celebrated with Michaela on the 5th in Connecticut. In town for Sunday’s road marathon in nearby Massachusetts, short hour drive away. Tableside guac sealed the deal – life’s just better with fresh guacamole 🙂
Happy Cinco de Mayo quarter-century Birthday, Michaela! May is Michaela month ❤
