holidays

Happy Thanksgiving 2014!  Always so much to be thankful for – good health, good friends, new life adventures.  Additionally, spent the past year with Ash & Tom as they saved for their first home – for this I’m most thankful.

Received more than a sideways glance when Ash & Tom moved in late last year from Jersey.  How long will they be living with you?  Do they have jobs?

Hold tight neighsayers — give it time.  Recipe for disaster?  Heck no!

Ro inherited a brother & I filled my sterile home with cable TV, fantasy football, NatGeo & a fully stocked fridge.

  • Tom knows Giants, Nets & Beer – and can spot-on imitate most every overplayed TV commercial.
  • Ash donates to a lotta wildlife charities – birds, wolves, ducks, farm animals, stray pets, ocean creatures.  Huge heart!
  • Additionally, neither are not afraid to try something new – inks n drinks (painting), glassblowing, geo caching, skiing, high altitude hiking (14er Mt Bierstadt), ice fishing & weekly trivia at more than a few local breweries 🙂

lotta happy positive vibes – crazy impressed with these 2!

It’s been a busy Fall season – lotta work, lotta marathoning — and a warm one too!  After an early September 11th flurry fest, unfortunately saw no snow in October – zero, nada, zilch.

Autumn has always been my favourite season – foliage colour & cooler temps.  LOVE it!  Always feel like – yes! made it thru another summer 🙂  Autumn = hot apple cider, pumpkins & county fairs.

Having Ash & Tom as housemates meant homemade pumpkin cookies for our fur babies, Ro & Marty, festive outdoor decorations AND a whole lotta Halloween candy for costumed trick-or-treaters while I travelled to Indy.  Fall 2014 = a new car for Ash after her Jeep Liberty was crushed by a deer (5pm, in traffic, in Boulder — shows it can happen to anyone).

Autumn = Football.  I’ve seen more NFL this season than I have in years.  In addition to the weekly office pool, Ash & Tom are part of multiple fantasy football leagues.  It’s crazy, dysfunctional fun — Ash’s rooting for the Bengal’s kicker, a wide receiver from Arizona & Denver’s quarterback.  Whereas last year I watched the Broncos & [New England] Patriots (old habits die hard), this year my house is engaged all week.  Monday night, Thursday night & all day Sunday.  Will be sad to see the season end.

so long summer, FALL has arrived.  #ROOOOOAAAAARRRR

Who doesn’t feel all patriotic on the 4th of July – Happy Birthday USA!

This year celebrated the holiday with housemates Ash & Tom and Stephen, visiting from New Hampshire.

Couldn’t think of a better place to watch the evening show than over Waneka Lake, a 10 minute walk from my front door.  Have lived in Colorado 4 years now but this my first chance to view local fireworks.  Twice I’ve travelled with family over the 4th & in 2012, the show was cancelled due to fire danger (lotta fires along the Front Range that year).

Headed down the Open Space trail behind North End to Lafayette’s Waneka Lake Park – feeling a wee bit guilty leaving the dogs behind (this being one of their favourite local walks).  Half circled the reservoir & perched on a couple large rocks, watching water lap below & waiting for night fall.

The night’s celebration started with a lone blast shortly after 9:30, concluding 20 minutes later in a fanfare of brightly coloured bursts.

No our little show doesn’t compete with past light shows I’ve seen over Boston Harbour or NYC’s Battery Park, but I’m home now — happy & content, don’t wish to be anywhere else.

Spent Saturday hiking Fort Collins’ Horsetooth Rock in crazy 90+ degree heat.  Unfortunately the dogs tired early (heat) so Ash took Ro & let me solo summit.  Goal to run up in 30 minutes, I finished in 29.

3 day weekends ROCK – 3 day weekends with friends & family…even better.
