Happy Solstice!

Bring on the SUN (please).  Summer concerts.  BBQ.  Potato salad.  Chips, pickles.

ICE CREAM!  We ALL scream for ice cream🍦🌞

Cold rainy season start in Colorado – NOT curbing my enthusiasm.

Thursday nite LOVE in Community Park.  Hazel Miller Band.  FREE summer tunes & FOOD TRUCK barbecue.  Kicked back on a blanket, ate BIG & counted clouds – on a ‘school’ nite.  Sum-sum-summertime.

Friday, Louisville Street Faire.  Downtown LOVE.

Every Friday nite, June thru August (Memorial Day to Labor Day).  Live music, FOOD, local vendors.  More BBQ, two summer scoops of Sweet Cow and Austin band Wild Child.  Dig my Colorado hometown ❤️

Midsummer Festival tomorrow in Estes.  Scandinavian maypole, strudel & schnitzel.

I declare SUMMER.  Let the games begin!

Friends, Family, Community and the Magic of Live Music

For three or four hours, eight summertime Friday evenings, life is just like it should be. Babies don’t cry, dogs don’t bark, and wise elders feel nineteen again. The Muse visits the musicians pretty much every night and dances when the spirit moves her. We don’t know why this all happens here, we’re just glad it does.

JUNE 21 Wild Child

Austin-based, seven-piece pop mini-orchestra, has carried its infectious blend of indie-pop and catchy melodies across the international music scene, charting viral hits and wrapping their arms around a diverse and dedicated fan base.

Shower, fresh clothes – and cameras.  Post-marathon.  Traded running shoes for boots Saturday afternoon & quick-toured Music City with Sis & family.  Common theme: UP ⬆️  Whether the State Capitol or food apps on Broadway, no less than 3 flights of stairs.  Good stretch after 26.2 miles of morning asphalt.

first post-LUNCH climb: Tennessee’s State Capitol Building.  Located downtown, high hill kitty-corner from the weekend’s rented digs.  3 US Presidents from the Volunteer State.  $20 Jackson, James Knox Polk & Lincoln’s VP Andrew Johnson.  All prominently memorialized on Tennessee’s state grounds.  Capitol Building: lotta Old World charm/columnar architecture, flag-topped dome.  Window-peek downstairs showcased a 19th century courtroom re-purposed for present day press talks.  Building poised high, surrounded by glass skyscrapers & multiple sports stadiums (football/hockey/baseball).  Pretty view of Nashville.  HUGE growth in Music City.

Next up: wild Honky Tonkin’ Broadway.  Soooo many people & competing noises (not my scene) – but today an improved attitude, flanked with FAMILY.  Thanks Stephen, Sis & Paul.  Friday: ‘I can’t eat here, it’s too loud.’  Today: smiled, nodded (still couldn’t hear) & ate my apps.  Pack eater I guess.  LOL>  Frown upside down 😊

TRIP HIGHLIGHT: the GRAND OLE OPRY.  No Nashville trip complete without THIS experience.  Sis pre-purchased tickets at the Ryman, first shows of winter.  Performances return every November after summering in nearby Opryland.  Original building, same wood floor, same church pews – circa 1892.  Rustic seating bit rough on the rump/big memory flood of childhood revivals past.  1950’s ’60s ’80s and American Idol, Scotty McCreery – Opry had it all tonite.  Hillbilly talk, square dancers & Opry laughter.  Nashville HIGHLIGHT ❤️

2 long hugs & the weekend done, magic over.  Goodnite Music City.  Bye, Sis.

Welcome to the Opry

Happy June!  3 months of Colorado summer – bring it on!!  (‘though still another half-month to hike our high peaks)

Stephen stayed an extra week after officiating Ash’s wedding – kicked off the month with some Irish music.  First stop of Byrne & Kelly’s summer tour: Boulder’s Dairy Arts Center.  Byrne & Kelly, members of the group Celtic Thunder AND Neil Byrne, Stephen’s cousin from Bray [Ireland].  Stephen in New Hampshire, his cousin Neil, Ireland – & they meet up in Boulder, Colorado.  Kismet, right?

Hadn’t been to Dairy Arts Center since last Fall’s Trail Running Film Festival.

Beautiful sunshiny weather – AWESOME start to Colorado summer, AWESOME nite of music.
