With Ash & Tom island-holidaying in the DR – lucky Papa, a week with the Grandpup. Double the canine count, double our daily Rez walks, double the LOVIN’. It’s a Marty Party! Both pups nudging for Papa’s affection – who doesn’t wanna back scratch? Truth – did find myself competing for bed space 😊 Bros sprawled side-by-side. Doggie Summer Camp. LOL>
Another summer tradition? Rockies BASEBALL. Gotta admit, not as much fun without Ash (chugging $10 beers). Adopted PS’ Chief Engineer’s son Logan – week continuing with the ‘granddad’ theme. Far better than parenting – play time’s over, pass ‘em back to mom & Dad. Dig it!
Oh…and the Rockies lost. Last year in the playoffs, this year – just last.
Bottom of the division. Bring on 2020! Coors Field, awesome place for SUMMER ☀️
Last honey-do done – wood blinds installed. Peaches purchased (Palisades peaches, a Colorado MUST). Full flat; prepped & froze for winter. Gonna miss this year’s festival, travelling north on Friday. FAR NORTH – to the Canadian Arctic. Canada’s Northwest Territories.
Ten weeks of marathoning. First stop, Yellowknife. Crazy excited, go ME!

Summer Break (Aug 2019)
Two years ago same month bought an overnight Amtrak ticket to Omaha. Picked up my rental at the Airport, drove to Des Moines for my 50-State ‘Iowa’ marathon. Same event where I enjoyed a VIP performance of Dracula. Still a FUNNY story – LOL>
Fast forward to Thanksgiving 2016. Received an email announcing the 2nd annual Nebraska Marathon. Train ride nostalgia that day I guess. Yep, they got me. Generally I only race register 3-4 months in advance.
Friday night train (7pm ticket), no work day miss 🙂 Parked at DIA, took commuter rail to Union Station. Would be returning Sunday by air. Learned rail isn’t known for on-time punctuality. 2015: train-returned home almost a half-day late.
- 9:45pm Friday: Greeted on-board by a juggler, my seatmate aisle over. Nope, can’t make this stuff up.
- 8:21am Saturday: Tagged a ride Downtown using my Lyft app. No rental required this trek.
Hotel check-in (host hotel assured a post-race shower), bib pick-up (across from baseball’s College World Series), afternoon matinee at the Orpheum (Finding Neverland). Who knew there was so much happening in Omaha!
FOOD.
24 hour fine-dining binge. Tuna burger at Denver’s trendy Hopdoddy. Oktoberfest-celebrated with Bräts & kraut in Omaha. THEN seafood-gorged at Shucks Oyster Bar at happy-hour prices: 99-cent oysters, 35-cent peel-n-eat shrimp. FAAANNNNTASTIC!
It’s not a gland problem folks. I run because I eat ❤
Marathon in morning – might need to circle the Park twice. So much food, so little time.

Summertime, summertime, sum sum summertime…
That time of year we afternoon in Coors Field & cheer our local Rockies. First year watching the Braves. Crushed ‘em the night before 17-2, so expecting only good things. Something new? A winning record. Rockies have been last or next-to-last EVERY year I’ve lived in Colorado. Proudly (despite that dismal stat), boast a 4-2 personal attendance record 🙂
Game Day 2017 – Ash & Tom: Coors Light, Coors Field. Me/family chauffeur: SmartWater & nachos.
Top of the 6th, Happy Birthday Jim scrolled the Big Board [PS Audio’s ‘El Presidente’]. Not that I’m über competitive but – daytime skies will darken on MY day, Monday. HA! (August 21st: the Great American Eclipse)
Seventh-inning stretch. Said our goodbyes & stretched back home. Homies got clobbered!
Aw well, there’s always next summer.

Nolan Arenado leaves with injury, Rockies get blown out by Braves 10-4
Other than that, the Rockies had a great afternoon.
by Hayden Kane@hwkane Aug 17, 2017, 5:03pm MDT
The Colorado Rockies ended an up-and-down series with the Atlanta Braves on a decidedly sour note Thursday afternoon. Nolan Arenado left the game early with an apparent re-injury to his left hand, and the pitching fell apart as Atlanta won by a final score of 10-4.
Pitching lapses in two innings cost the Rockies dearly in this one. Starter Jeff Hoffman surrendered back-to-back home runs to Ender Inciarte and Freddie Freeman in the top of the 5th inning. That broke a tie and made the score 4-2. Things were still in reach at that point, but things really fell apart in the 7th inning.
Mike Dunn, who has been a good reliever lately, regressed back to being a bad reliever on this day. The inconsistent lefty allowed three runs and recorded just one out. He handed things to Adam Ottavino, and unfortunately he did not fare any better, allowing three runs of his own.
That made for six runs total in the frame, turning this game lopsided and erasing the good vibes of the blowout in the other direction just one day earlier.
