South

Me, Sis, my bro James & nephew Jack.  Team 4 Layer Delight, the originals.

2015 my first marathon relay at the inaugural Fort Smith Marathon.  4 Layer Delight?  Williamsburg Kitchen’s bestselling dessert at Mom’s Arkansas-home restaurant.  This year (next month), Williamsburg will celebrate the BIG 4-0.  FORTY years.

Team 4 Layer Delight?  We’re back & celebrating too.  Like fine wine, even better in 2019.  Me, Sis, bro James & in-law Paul.  Only ONE still under the HALF CENTURY mark.  Fine AGED wine.  All eyes on Fort Smith this weekend – FAMILY marathon.

  • Thursday start for Ash & Tom.  NBA tickets in Oklahoma City (OKC Thunder), then rental car-trekked 3 hours east on Interstate 40.  Straight shot, easy no drama drive.  Geocache tags & State Park hike next day in nearby Van Buren.
  • Sis, Paul & niece Tori wouldn’t leave St. Louis ‘til late Saturday (work & school commitments).  Nephew Jack?  Friday overnight in Columbia MO (U of Missouri fun).  Would fly from Mizzou Sunday early a.m.
  • My flight from Denver?  Cancelled Friday nite (weather in Dallas/winter season).  Would ultimately land early afternoon Saturday in Arkansas.  Mom-greeted at the airport.  Heart smile.

Family HOMECOMING.

Saturday nite, PUZZLE nite.  Card table in the living room.  Pieces righted/spread-out even.  Frenzied straight-edge search, border created.  Ash & Tom, they’re expert Puzzlers.  Sis Collette & niece Maddie also strong players.  Me?  Not so much.

Oh, I enjoy the activity – but it’s a sea of browns & illogically forced-shapes pushed together.  Lotta laughs though.

Puzzle nite, FAMILY nite.  Really really good to be HOME 😊

Homecoming 2019

FAMILY ❤️

Day & a half with FAMILY – just what the doctor ordered.  Peace.

Lotta details this past Fall.  11 marathons including a new Canadian PR.  6-month stomach woes diagnosed – intestinal parasites (never mind heat & humidity/don’t drink water from random paper cups during a Brazilian marathon).

Lunch at Calico County (fried green tomatoes – YUM!)  Both Saturday/Sunday nites, living-room movies with FAMILY.  “I Can Only Imagine” – awesome flic ‘bout Forgiveness.  ‘Abusive dad’ themes generally I avoid.  Good film.

Church morn Sunday with Mom brought clarity.

Dog who attacked Ro was someone’s pet.  It wasn’t a rogue animal.  Aside from filing a Police report to keep the Public (my Louisville neighbors) safe, that’s that.  All vet bills were picked up by Pup’s kennel.  Excellent care – wrong righted.

Unexpected things happen in life.  If your child is injured at school, you don’t kill the other kid in retaliation (though I tell ya, that was my gut first 2 days).  Life forward.

Mom, Bro – love ya to the moon & back.

Mark your calendars.  Registered for the Fort Smith Marathon in February.  Team 4-Layer Delight & Sis RETURNS (celebrating Williamsburg Kitchen’s 40th anniversary)!  Bro – you & your ugly bent finger are running the third [relay] leg.  Surprise 🙂

UPDATE:  Back home, all tech’d up for 2019.  Thanks everyone!

Post-marathon Sunday – up early, ready to go-go-go.  South Carolina.  Weather app forecast’d a three-hour calm; Winter Storm Diego bearing on the Carolinas.  1pm flight HOME – plenty of time for a museum, President’s home, y’all know…something anything historical.  Gotta/hafta/must 🙂

Breakfast highlight: Fried Green Tomato Eggs Benedict (highly recommended), then 2 hours at Charles Towne Landing.  Check, done.  Fulfilled my inner History Nerd.  English’s first permanent settlement here – 1670, on the ship ‘Carolina’.  Tell ya folks, it’s an addiction.  LOL>

Glass-walled windows, stunning outdoor panorama.  HUGE renovated Visitors Center.  Unfortunately, wrong politics.  12 minutes enough.  Moved my energy outside.  Exploitation, sugar cane, cotton, slavery.  Got it.  Park Ranger said ‘no charge’ (many thanks).  Outdoors, much better fit.

Hundred-year live oaks draped in Spanish moss.  Egrets/sand cranes stalked the property’s lowlands gigging for frogs/insects/crawfish/minnows.  Roads in & outta the Park canopied by tall deciduous, still leafy green in December.  Light drizzle, big BEAUTIFUL outdoors all to myself.  Heart soar.

America the BeautifulDifferences aside, I’m better having visited all 50 States.

Hilo Hawaii, Washington DC, Buffalo NY, Ennis Montana, Juneau Alaska.  New places, new faces.  Super BLESSED – absolutely amazing run year.  So many LIFE adventures.  #noregrets
