MOVE; Stay INSPIRED!

Most of us support charities thru direct giving or donating/sharing our time.

I support Autism Speaks; autism afflicts a very important person in my life, David.

Additionally I run local races to support other causes close to my heart – Community Food Share on Thanksgiving (no individual should go without food), Juvenile Diabetes (for Michaela), MS (for Sheila & for Lyndon).

My efforts are small.

For 5 years, Cliff Lungaretti has been ALL-IN in his support of Movember.  Autographed Cliffy baseball cards, cozies, t-shirts, hats, Clay Cliffy – like I said, ALL-IN.   Selfless.  ALL proceeds go to rid the world of ‘man-cer’ (man cancer).

I was lucky enough to have hired Cliff years back in NYC as he was climbing the corporate ladder.  Super smart, super funny, amazing character, honest guy.  It’s a-ok to recognize those around you who truly Inspire.  Cliffy – you ROCK!

Movember (the month formerly known as November) is a moustache growing charity event held during November each year that raises awareness and funds for men’s health.

At the start of Movember guys register with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants known as Mo Bros then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their Mo (slang for moustache) and along the way raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues – specifically cancers affecting men.

The average life expectancy for men is five years less than females.

Men lack awareness about the very real health issue they face, have an attitude that they have to be tough – “a real man” and are reluctant to see a doctor about an illness or to go for regular medical checks.

The aim of Movember is to change these attitudes, make male health fun by putting the Mo (moustache) back on the face of fashion and in the process raise some serious funds for men’s health issues.

National Geographic has named their 2014 Adventurers of the Year.

“For nine years, National Geographic has combed the globe to find the Adventurers of the Year, each selected for his or her extraordinary achievement in exploration, adventure sports, conservation, and humanitarianism.

This year, we picked people who embody the spirit of adventure in diverse ways—a sky runner reinventing the rules; a skier reimagining his backyard; a climber seeking the hardest routes; a solo woman walking across the globe; a pair of veterans creating community where it’s needed most; and five more incredible feats.”

Folks know I’m a HUGE Kilian Jornet fan.  That said, I was inspired by ALL of this year’s honorees.

Signed up for Ironman Boulder 2 months ago.

Swim, bike more than 100 miles and run a full 26.2 mile marathon.  So how’s that working for ya?

Well…I’ve climbed five 14ers, travelled to Iceland, snow camped & leaf peeked in both Aspen & Steamboat Springs – but Ironman training, not so much.

60 day goal – gonna run my 2nd FULL marathon of the year on December 8th in Tucson, Arizona.

Seems impossible to be fit & marathon-ready in 60 days.  That said, can’t fail if you don’t try.

Started running today – 7 miles.

Swim, bike, run.  Swim, bike, run.  Head’s in the game, gonna do this thing.
