Run the Year Motto: Run, Crawl, Walk, Conquer, Dominate 2,016 miles in 2016
March 2016 update: another HUGE month – marathoned all 4 weekends of March. Ticker: 7 consecutive race weekends (February start). FAAANNTASTIC challenge! Building CONSISTENCY & ENDURANCE in 2016.
Race ReCap: one ultra & 4 marathons – including my first DOUBLE CHALLENGE, 2 marathons over 2 days in 2 different states. Highlight: Bataan Memorial Death March on White Sands Missile Range NM.
Next month’s focus: INTENSITY
8 trail runs this year – BIG learning curve. While increasing endurance (longer distance runs) AND switching road to trail, focus shifted from steady pace to survival (eating during a run, staying fit & uninjured). Move back to road mid-April. Speed work, INTENSITY, fearless DOWNHILL running. Uphill I’ve got, I pull back Downhill.
Mileage ReCap: Still on track, ended March at 500 miles (4 miles short of goal).
02-Apr Rockin’ K Trail Marathon Ellsworth KS
10-Apr Go! St Louis Marathon St Louis MO
30-Apr Illinois Marathon Champaign-Urbana IL (State 49)
01-May Colorado Marathon Fort Collins CO (State 50)
- ended March at 500 miles
- 50 State FINISH in 4 weeks!
- Milestone 400
- Milestone 500
Run the Year Motto: Run, Crawl, Walk, Conquer, Dominate 2,016 miles in 2016
Feb 2016 update: BIG month – started Spring season a month early, marathoned last 3 weekends of February. No break in my race schedule ‘til 4th of July. FAAANNTASTIC challenge! Do the math – that’s 20 consecutive race weekends. Building CONSISTENCY & ENDURANCE in 2016. Last Fall, folded after 11 weeks. Big difference? only 4 East Coast races this trek.
Race ReCap: Moab, Vegas & Tulsa: two ultras, one marathon, one Half. Never previously run trail nor an ultra distance (even in training) – now have 3 trail races, a 50K & a 55K under my belt. Next month’s focus: NUTRITION Bonked during both ultra runs. Gotta learn how to eat & what to eat, when running > 6 hours. Another DOUBLE CHALLENGE planned in late March: Saturday-Sunday road marathons in Lamar CO & Clayton NM, part of Mainly Marathon’s Dust Bowl Series.
Mileage ReCap: Still on track, ended February at 341.07 miles (5 miles ahead of goal).
- ended February at 341.07 miles
- BIG month: Moab, Vegas & Tulsa — two ultras, one marathon & a Half
- Milestone 200
- Milestone 300
During my 11 consecutive weeks of marathoning last Fall, fell off track with regard to active training. Between work, personal life & traveling East Coast 10 of those 11 weeks, struggled for consistency — pace dropped off, ran injured for 6 weeks.
2016 goal: ENJOY the run, ENJOY the journey, ENJOY whom I’m running with, look around/ENJOY my surroundings, REMEMBER how blessed I am – and CONSISTENCY.
Just before New Year’s, signed up online for my 2016 running challenge – in addition to entering 40 marathons/ultras this year (only 3 east of the Mississippi 🙂 ), joined a new running community: Run the Year 2016.
Motto: Run, Crawl, Walk, Conquer, Dominate 2,016 miles in 2016
Site is actually geared to new runners – folks wanting to lose weight, change/rebuild lifestyles…but 2,000 miles? Jeez, seems like an impossible challenge. But when you break it down over the entire year, it’s only 5 ½ miles a day. CONSISTENCY. Awesome drawing inspiration from like-minded individuals all over the USA. LOVE it!
